Best Period Swimwear for Teens 2024
First of all, let's clear up a myth that we hear ALL THE TIME on socials.
Your period does NOT stop in water. It may not come out quite as quickly due to water pressure. And any that does come out will be diluted in water, so you won't leave a bloody trail behind you in the pool. But it doesn't stop.
And, when you get out of the pool, that's when you can often leak all over the show. Trust me I have ruined hotel towels in the past when using regular swimwear and my period started and I was completely unaware. Or stood up after getting out of the sea and had blood trickling down my leg.
This is why period swimwear is brilliant, especially for teens and tweens who may not be comfortable using tampons.
How Does Period Swimwear Work?
Period swimwear works because the outer fabric is water repellent, which means it keeps water out and period blood in. There is an absorbent lining to absorb period blood but obviously it can't be too absorbent as you're in water!
Kirstin on our team is a sea swimmer and she says it keeps her warmer when she gets into the water as you don't have that gasping cold sensation when the water reaches your chest / heart as it keeps the water out.
If you're planning on going on holiday shortly and your teen or tween has recently started their period, switching to period swimwear is an easy way to make sure they can enjoy the pool as normal.

How To Care for Period Swimwear
Like any swimwear rinse immediately after use especially if you've been in a chlorinated pool as chlorine will just EAT swimwear. Cold water rinse for blood as hot water will set the stains.
