Cheeky Partnership: Women for Women International

Here at Team Cheeky, we're so proud to launch our partnership with Women for Women International.

As an independent business heading towards our 16th birthday, we have been spreading the word about simple reusables for everyday life since 2008. Our passion for the environment and for change drives us to understand our customers needs and offer as many options as we can to enable them to make the switch.

When we launched with our reusable baby wipes kit, it was born out of necessity and as time went on, our needs changed and once we started looking at reusable options for periods and incontinence, we didn't look back.

As a female run business, we are always looking for ways to make periods and incontinence more manageable, acceptable and break down the taboos surrounding period shame and period poverty. We work closely with a number of schools and organisations across the UK supplying period pants to ensure each pupil has access to supplies and can manage their period whilst at school ensuring they don't miss school days or sports events.

Further afield, we supply pants and pads to charities working globally to ensure girls and women there can not only access period supplies but also learn how they are made and thrive on developing skills and knowledge through a myriad of programmes.

Supplying pants and pads to organisations in the UK and further afield is one thing, but what about when those regions aren't accessible and deliveries aren't reliable or are dangerous?

Women for Women International invests where inequality is greatest by helping women who are forgotten — the women survivors of war and conflict. Since 1993, our global community has invested in the power of over 570,000 women across 17 conflict-affected countries, to create a ripple effect that makes the world more equal, peaceful, and prosperous.

Through Women for Women International’s Stronger Women, Stronger Nations Programme, women learn the skills they need to rebuild their families and communities. In Afghanistan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Iraq, Kosovo, Nigeria, Rwanda, and South Sudan, women who join the programme connect with each other to form support networks, are equipped with the skills to earn an income and save, gain knowledge and resources to care for their families and defend their rights. Women use their power together, passing it on to their community and their children to create lasting change.

That is the power of women, for women.

When you place an order with us, you'll see an option on the basket page to make a donation for women survivors of war. You can select whether you want to donate the price of a liner, day or night pad and it'll be added to your order total. That amount will then be donated to Women for Women International, via us and will go towards the work they do in supporting women across the world.

We wanted to share Grace's story to highlight the impact of investing in the power of women. Grace is from Nigeria. In 2012, while pregnant and a mother to two children, gunmen raided her village, forcing her to flee. Overnight she hid in a river, holding onto her daughter with her son on her back.

She joined our Stronger Women, Stronger Nations programme in 2023 and took part in a two-week training session to learn how to make reusable eco-friendly menstrual pads. She has also learnt how to educate other women and girls on the dangers of using unhygienic materials during their periods.

She is now teaching her two daughters how to produce pads and the girls are now educating other girls in her school about menstrual hygiene.

Over the next ten years, their goal is to scale our impact to improve the lives of millions of the most marginalised women affected by war and conflict. Their vision is to create a world in which all women determine the course of their lives and reach their full potential.
