Why switch to reusable incontinence protection?

The main reasons for switching to reusable incontinence pads and washable incontinence knickers are really simple:

  • Better for the planet

  • Better for your pocket

  • Better for you

Washable Incontinence Pads and Pants - green, comfortable products, better for the environment

It should really not need explaining that washable, reusable products are going to be better for the planet than disposable products. Incontinence pads and pants should always be placed in the bin rather than flushed, however they still end up in our sewers, creating stinking ‘fatbergs’ and then causing marine pollution, making our seas and water courses filthy.

Incontinence pads wash up on our beaches and end up in the stomachs of fish, turtles, sea birds and sea mammals. It’s both sad and revolting.

If you do the right thing and bin your single use incontinence products, most of them aren't biodegradable or are only biodegradable if composted, which is an example of 'green washing' to look out for. These end up in landfill, taking hundreds of years to decompose.

And of course, the resources used to create these products have a HUGE carbon footprint many, many times more than that of reusable pads or pants over their  lifetime. By comparison, switching to washable incontinence pads and / or pants creates just a couple of additional load of washing annually, if you have a 7kg washing machine and are washing as part of a full washload.

Reusable incontinence products save you money

There are some crazy numbers out there for how much we spend on our periods monthly, with a The Urology Foundation recently estimating that the cost of private purchases of incontinence products is around £750 million in the UK annually.     Per person, based on the leading brand, assuming that person changes their pad 3 times per day, that's around £5 - £10 weekly.  Over the course of a year, that's £250 - £500.

If you spend the same amount on reusable incontinence protection, there is of course an upfront cost, however once paid, you don’t have to spend any more. If you bought our reusable incontinence bundle, that would cost you £99.95 and would be sufficient to kit you out for a good few years.  An investment purchase!

Washable Incontinence Pads and Pants are WAY more comfortable and easy to wear

At the most basic, reusable incontinence pads and pants are more comfortable to wear than their disposable counterparts, 'fluffy vagina blankets' in fact. There's no glue, so you don’t have a sticky bit to catch on your pubic hair giving you an inadvertent bikini wax every time you move.  Most importantly, they also won’t chafe or rub, so are fantastic for sports whether that's yoga, strength training or just dog walking. Popper the pads into your pants label side down.

Hopefully this has given you some insight as to why you would want to swap to reusable incontinence protection. Now, just find out what you need in order to switch to reusable incontinence pads or pants.
